Sheffield Wednesday swoop late to strike loan deal with Manchester City as Hull City exit…

Manchester City have recalled Joel Ndala from his loan spell at Hull City - and sent him to Sheffield Wednesday.

The 19-year-old, who can operate out wide or up front, joined Hull on a season-long loan deal in the summer.

He has made 17 appearances in the Championship this term but has struggled for starts of late and seen competition for places intensified by Hull’s winter window recruitment.

It was suggested Wednesday were looking to strike a loan agreement for Ndala in the dying embers of deadline day and a deal has now been pushed over the line.

Joel Ndala loan switch confirmed

The England youth international has put pen to paper on a loan deal running until the end of the season, swapping a promotion tilt for a stint at the bottom of the Championship.

A statement issued by the Owls read: “Wednesday have added to the January ranks by signing Joel Ndala from Premier League Manchester City. The wideman joins the Owls on a loan deal that runs until the end of the season.

“Ndala brings with him Championship pedigree, having made 19 appearances for Hull City this season whilst on loan with the Tigers. The 19-year-old has been on Manchester City’s books from the age of 10 and proved a big hit for the Under-18s side over the Pennines.

“After a breakthrough campaign in 2022/23, Ndala plundered 16 goals with nine assists and graduated to City’s Under-21 team in Premier League 2.

“The pacey winger then had two loan spells, first to PSV Eindhoven in the Netherlands followed by a spell with Nottingham Forest.

“That led him to Hull, for whom he scored twice this term, against Wrexham in the Carabao Cup and Derby County in the Championship. Internationally, Ndala has played through the youth levels for England, from the Under-16s to the Under-20s.

“Ndala was selected for the Three Lions squad at the 2023 FIFA Under-17 World Cup and scored the winner in a 2-1 win over Iran. He now links up with Wednesday until May. Welcome to Hillsborough, Joel.”
