Report: Update on Jeremy Jacquet's Liverpool medical as 7pm deadline passes without announcement

The 2026 winter transfer window is officially closed, but Jeremy Jacquet’s transfer to Liverpool is yet to be confirmed.

Just a few days ago, it seemed like Arne Slot’s side were going to end the window without a senior signing.

Marc Guehi moved to Manchester City, and with Chelsea pushing for Jeremy Jacquet, it appeared the Reds were going to miss out on another centre-back to a Premier League rival.

However, it then emerged that Jacquet had chosen to sign for Liverpool, with the Blues instead the ones losing out.

But at the time of writing, the Merseyside outfit are yet to confirm the 20-year-old’s addition.

Jeremy Jacquet completes Liverpool medical

Rennes’ manager spoke about Jacquet earlier on Monday, but was rather coy in his comments.

Liverpool fans need not worry, however, as everything on the Jacquet front appears to be fine.

The club are yet to officially announce his signing, but Mike McGrath has now shared an update for the Telegraph.

He confirmed the medical is done, and while the deal should go through on February 2, the fact that it is a summer transfer means there’s no rush.

McGrath wrote: “Jeremy Jacquet has completed his medical at Liverpool. The 20-year-old centre-back will join Liverpool in a £60m deal, with £55m up front and he will join in the summer after completing the season with Rennes.

“The deal should go through today, although there is no stress as it is a transfer for the 26/27 season.”

Liverpool’s centre-back future looks bright

Jacquet will join ahead of 2026/27 when Ibrahima Konate is due to be out of contract.

There has also been some suggestion that Joe Gomez will leave Liverpool later this year.

However, the heart of Slot’s backline looks to have been secured for many years to come.

Giovanni Leoni, who has missed much of 2025/26 due to injury, arrived last year and is still only 19.

Jacquet will not turn 21 until July 13, 2026, while the Reds also agreed deals for two more young stoppers in January.

17-year-old Ifeanyi Ndukwe will link up with Liverpool in 2026/27, initially as part of Rob Page’s U21 squad.

Elsewhere, 18-year-old Mor Talla Ndiaye has already been added to the club’s youth ranks this winter.
