Premier League champions Liverpool have agreed a £60million deal to sign Rennes centre-back Jeremy Jacquet, who had previously been linked with Chelsea.
Arsenal, meanwhile, were forced into the transfer market after confirming that Mikel Merino will be sidelined for an extended period following surgery on a broken foot. Manager Mikel Arteta and Arsenal’s recruitment team missed out on Hearts star James Wilson, who opted to join Tottenham.
Elsewhere, Manchester United made no moves, while Tottenham, Aston Villa, and Everton sought last-minute reinforcements in the transfer window. David Moyes’ side aimed to strengthen their squad for the second half of the season.
According to BBC Sport, Fulham have rejected an offer from Everton for Harry Wilson. The 28-year-old Wales international, whose contract expires this summer, was the subject of a bid last week, but Fulham have made it clear he will not be sold in January.
Head coach Marco Silva revealed that the club must do everything they can to keep Wilson this window. “We are in the fight, we are trying to keep him,” said Silva. “If you ask me if it’s going to be easy, I say it’s not going to be easy.
“The more he scores, many more clubs are going to be around him. This is football business. When a player goes to the end of his contract, this kind of thing is going to happen. I know he’s happy in our club and how much he’s enjoying the moment. It’s up to the club to do the maximum to keep him.”
Having joined Fulham on an initial loan from Liverpool in July 2021, Wilson has since made 173 appearances, scoring 34 goals and providing 43 assists. The club are prioritising securing his future, though talks over a contract extension are currently on hold amid transfer interest.
Wilson is also waiting for clarity on Silva’s own future – he is also out of contract this summer – before committing to a new deal. The 28-year-old spent nearly 16 years at Liverpool, rising through the club’s youth ranks to make senior debuts for both club and country.
The versatile attacker first represented Wales at 16 in 2013 and later captained Liverpool’s U23s.He made his first-team debut for Liverpool as a substitute in an FA Cup tie against Plymouth Argyle in January 2017, before embarking on a series of loan spells to gain further experience.
