The 2025-26 trade season has been relatively quiet.
Three deals have been completed thus far, with the blockbuster team trade (Cleveland Cavaliers, De’Andre Hunter, and Dario Saric) featuring Hunter and Ellis as the most notable.
The Los Angeles Lakers could be the franchise that helps spice things up this week, as their roster is far from perfect. Interestingly, though, the franchise’s star point guard sent a seven-word message to the Lakers amid growing rumors that the 17-time NBA champions will make a move before the Feb. 5 deadline.
“I think we’re in a good spot,” Doncic said confidently on Sunday night before elaborating.
“Obviously, got some work to do. But I think today we missed a lot of good looks. I think we have a great group.”
If Doncic was dissatisfied with the Lakers’ current state and direction, he would have taken a page out of Anthony Davis’ book and urged the organization to make a trade (Davis stated that the Lakers needed a center toward the end of his tenure).
Instead, Doncic alerted the Lakers that things are fine the way they are, and the organization’s early-February roster is more than capable of succeeding when it matters most. The Doncic-led Lakers boast a 29-19 record and haven’t had their breakout star, Austin Reaves, in the lineup since Dec. 25.
That said, it’s likely Los Angeles will, at the very least, explore an early to mid-week trade to give them a boost moving forward.
