David Fofana Completes Deadline Day Loan Move to Chelsea Sister Club Strasbourg

Chelsea have finalized their decision to send out-of-favour striker David Datro Fofana on loan to their French sister club Strasbourg. The 23-year-old Ivorian is expected to return to Stamford Bridge at the end of the season.

There was interest for Fofana from clubs like Mallorca and France, but the striker completed a deadline day deal to join Strasbourg instead. He is widely expected to cover for Emanuel Emegha, who has dealt with recurring injury concerns in recent weeks. Emegha could be out for another six weeks after a muscle injury relapse, which pushed the BlueCo ownership to give Strasbourg another striker as a replacement.

Fofana was playing for Turkish side Fatih Karagumruk for most of this season, scoring eight goals in 18 appearances, before he was recalled to Stamford Bridge. He notably joined the Blues in 2023 from Molde, as the Boehly-Clearlake consortium signed numerous young players.

The 23-year-old has been on loan ever since his move, joining clubs like Union Berlin and Burnley in recent years. He remains under contract until 2029. He will look to take that experience of playing in different leagues to the Ligue 1, where he will be expected to provide pace and attacking depth to the Strasbourg squad.

How Strasbourg’s Attack Has Thrived Despite Emegha’s Injury Woes

While Emegha’s injury troubles have been a source of concern in Strasbourg, it has given room to Joaquin Panichelli to emerge as an exciting revelation in attack. The talented Argentine striker joined from Alaves last summer and has now scored 11 goals for the French outfit.

His performances have been impressive enough, earning the forward a call-up to the Argentina national team in November 2025. With his imposing size, the striker will hope to continue providing attacking impetus for Strasbourg, alongside David Fofana, whose notable pace could see the duo drive their club up the Ligue 1 table with goals.
