Liverpool ended the 2026 January transfer window with just one senior signing.
Though based on previous claims about a quiet window at Anfield, that is probably better than some fans were expecting.
Jamie Carragher still thinks Liverpool needed another defender who could play this season.

But beating Chelsea to Jeremy Jacquet is nothing to complain about, even if he won’t feature for the Reds until this summer.

While Liverpool won the race for Jacquet, there were some big names that FSG and Co. did not sign in the last month or so despite links.
Three best players Liverpool missed out on in January transfer window
Antoine Semenyo
Before the transfer window kicked off, Bournemouth winger Antoine Semenyo was mooted for an Anfield switch.
Semenyo had a release clause, thought to be around £65m, that was set to become active in the first week of January.

Mohamed Salah’s future is uncertain, and the versatile forward could have been a solid replacement in the long term.
However, fans instead watched on as Manchester City landed Semenyo, who has since scored four and assisted one in his first five games for the Sky Blues.
Marc Guehi
Sticking with Man City, they really were a thorn in the side of Liverpool this winter.
After previous approaches in the summer of 2025, it was reported that Guehi preferred the Reds over the Manchester outfit.
However, when all was said and done, City paid up to land the centre-back from Crystal Palace ahead of him becoming a free agent later this year.
The fees involved in signing Guehi were thought to be a sticking point for Liverpool, but they may well come to regret that decision now they’re spending the rest of 2025/26 with just two fit centre-backs and the injury-prone Joe Gomez.

Lutsharel Geertruida
In a similar vein, it seemed obvious that a new right-back needed to be added to the squad before Monday’s deadline.
Conor Bradley is out for the season, while it’s not known exactly when Jeremie Frimpong and Gomez will be back.
Liverpool were active in the market, looking at a deal for Lutsharel Geertruida.
But Sunderland were not in a position to sanction Geertruida’s exit, and a deal never came to pass, leaving Slot without a senior right-back for the time being.
