Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is currently a free agent. The 32-year-old boasts an impressive career at the highest levels of club and international football.
A product of Southampton’s academy, Oxlade-Chamberlain joined Arsenal in 2011, just a week before his 18th birthday. He spent seven years with the Gunners, winning three FA Cups.
In 2017, Liverpool secured his signature for a reported £35million. While injuries disrupted much of his six-year spell at Anfield, he made a notable contribution during the Reds’ historic 2019/20 Premier League title-winning season, featuring in 30 matches and scoring four goals. He also lifted the Champions League during his time at Liverpool.
Oxlade-Chamberlain left Liverpool in the summer of 2023 and signed a three-year deal with Turkish side Besiktas. However, injuries struck again, leading to the termination of his contract in August last year. He has remained unattached since.
According to Sky Sports, Celtic are interested in Oxlade-Chamberlain. As a free agent, there is no immediate rush for a deal to be completed before tonight’s 11pm transfer deadline in Scotland. On the international stage, Oxlade-Chamberlain earned 35 caps for England between 2012 and 2019, scoring seven goals.
The experienced midfielder was part of two major tournament squads, representing his country at Euro 2012 and the 2014 World Cup. Currently, he is training with his former club, Arsenal, as he looks for his next move.
Arsenal Mikel Arteta has, however, not ruled out signing Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain on a short-term deal. Asked about the possibility of signing Oxlade-Chamberlain, Arteta said: “We explore every option.”
“We are on it. And it’s our responsibility, when we are playing for what we are playing, to give ourselves the best opportunity and chance to look at the market, every option, evaluate them, and then make a decision whether we do something, if it’s possible.
“When you lose a big player like this in the squad with four months to go and all the competitions to play for, you need to look. And we need to do everything that we possibly can do to see if we have a player that is available. And if we don’t, we keep what we have.”
