Arsenal vs Chelsea: Carabao Cup Preview, Semi-Final Second Leg, 2026

Chelsea will make the short trip across the capital to the Emirates Stadium as they prepare to take on fierce London rivals, Arsenal in what is anticipated to be a fiercely contested Carabao Cup semi-final, second leg.

The Gunners go into the tie with a one-goal advantage after a highly competitive first leg at Stamford Bridge.

Goals from Viktor Gyokeres, Ben White and Martin Zubimendi sealed victory last time out. However, two goals scored by impact substitute Alejandro Garnacho put a dent into Arsenal's lead and kept Chelsea's cup final hopes alive.

Arsenal

Arsenal are set to make a late, last minute decision on whether Bukayo Saka is fit enough to play. Mikel Arteta commented “We have to wait. Today, he was better, but we have to wait and see how he responds, and then make a decision. It doesn’t look like something too serious. Whether he’s going to be available for tomorrow or the weekend, we’ll see."

Mikel Merino and Max Dowman are both confirmed to be sidelined with foot and ankle injuries respectively.

Chelsea

Ahead of the game, Liam Rosenior provided an update on Estevao Willian, Jamie Gittens and Filip Jorgenson's chances of featuring in the fixture.

Estevao missed the weekend’s comeback win over West Ham following a family issue that resulted in a temporary return to Brazil for the teenager. Rosenior admitted: “I don’t know yet,” about the Brazilian starboy’s chances of playing. “He's going through a really difficult time for personal reasons and he's on compassionate leave. I don't put any pressure on him.”

As for Gittens, the young Englishman was forced off the field in Saturday's fixture after picking up a hamstring injury. Rosenior commented: “I don’t know the extent of his injury...for him to come off after 25 minutes is disappointing for him and hopefully it's not too bad.”

Finally, the manager offered an update on the recovery of goalkeeper Filip Jorgensen - who started last round’s 3-1 away victory over Cardiff City before picking up an injury - saying: “He's close to being fit and hopefully it’ll be either Arsenal or the game after this.”

Levi Colwill, Romeo Lavia, Dario Essugo and Tosin Adarabioyo are also all sidelined.

Players to Watch

Arsenal: Martin Zubimendi

The Spaniard has found his form running Arsenal’s midfield. With eight goal contributions, including the winner against Chelsea in the first leg, he has begun to become a key asset in the Gunners title aspirations.

He is a calm and composed midfielder with an eye for goal, and years of top flight experience in LaLiga and the Champions League with Real Sociedad.

Chelsea - Joao Pedro

The Brazilian marksman has made six goal contributions in six games under Liam Rosenior. The forward picked up a goal and an assist in Saturday’s 3-2 victory over West Ham, after coming off the bench at the break.

He’s a quick and agile attacker who has the ability to play anywhere across the Chelsea front line and still make a significant impact. The Brazilian leads the line as Chelsea’s top scorer this season, having netted twelve times as well as five assists.
