Liverpool endured a fairly subdued January transfer window, but the rumours have not ended with the transfer window.

The Reds must now wait until the summer to bolster their squad, though they've already laid groundwork to bring in fresh talent ahead of next season. Liverpool managed to pip Chelsea to the signature of Jeremy Jacquet from Rennes for £60million.

Jacquet won't join up with the Liverpool squad until the summer, despite the Reds being strongly linked with defensive reinforcements during the January window. Arne Slot's side will now turn their attention to returning to Premier League action at the weekend.

They welcome Manchester City to Anfield this weekend as they aim to climb the table and strengthen their prospects of securing Champions League qualification.

Here, the Echo examines some of the latest Liverpool transfer news and rumours that have emerged over the past 24 hours.

Joel Ordonez boost

Liverpool have received encouraging news regarding the future of Club Brugge star Joel Ordonez. The Reds have been linked with a move for the defender in recent weeks, though other clubs showed interest before Monday's deadline.

The Athletic has reported Crystal Palace submitted a bid for Ordonez on deadline day, but this was promptly turned down by Brugge and no follow-up offer has since been reported. Liverpool had been rumoured to be pursuing Ordonez earlier in the transfer window before securing a £60m agreement for Jacquet from Rennes.

Whether the Merseyside club will continue to be associated with a move for Ordonez in the coming weeks and months remains uncertain, especially once the Jacquet transfer is formally completed.

The representative of Inter Milan midfielder Davide Frattesi has revealed Liverpool blocked Curtis Jones from departing Anfield during the January transfer window. Jones had been touted for a switch to Inter ahead of Monday's deadline, with reports suggesting a loan arrangement with an option to purchase was being considered.

Nevertheless, Liverpool refused to sanction Jones' exit before the window closed, which subsequently affected Nottingham Forest's attempts to acquire Frattesi. Giuseppe Riso, Frattesi's agent, has outlined how Liverpool's decision to retain Jones at Anfield scuppered the Inter midfielder's potential transfer.

"There was interest from Lazio and Nottingham," Riso told Sky Sports Italy. "Then Liverpool wouldn't let Jones go, and in the end, everything ground to a halt.

"Inter don't want to do without him right now and didn't want to move on."
