Harden is reportedly seeking a two-year, $80 million deal after this season, but the Clippers aren't willing to give it.
In the blink of an eye, James Harden and the Los Angeles Clippers are suddenly nearing an unforeseen breakup with two days left before the NBA trade deadline.

As the news broke out that both sides are now exploring a potential deal, Harden is actually looking for a two-year, $80 million extension after this season, a commitment that the Clippers aren't willing to give.
“The Clippers have long been prioritizing their cap space heading into the summer of 2027, and were not willing to give players deals beyond the 2026-27 season. Harden, who turns 37 in August, had been hoping to secure a two-year, fully guaranteed deal worth $80 million after this season, sources said, but the Clippers have remained steadfast in their unwillingness to go beyond 2027," per ClutchPoints Tomer Azarly.
Still, according to Azarly, there is a chance that Harden might still remain as a Clipper beyond the trade deadline and eventually work out a split-up in the offseason.
Harden signed a one-plus-one deal with the Clippers last offseason worth $81.5 million. Next season is a $42.3MM player option, with $13.3 million only guaranteed.
