The'surprise'size of permanent fee included by Chelsea in Everton loan deal for Tyrique George - journalist

Tyrique George was one of a handful of players to leave Chelsea on loan on deadline day, with the winger joining Everton until the end of the season after a lack of game time at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea ended the winter window without making a senior signing despite their pursuit of Jeremy Jacquet, who has completed a move to Liverpool. Chelsea held extensive talks for Tylel Tati, as well.

There was also interest in signing a central midfielder, with Douglas Luiz and Curtis Jones among the names touted with a move to Stamford Bridge. The only addition, defender Mamadou Sarr recalled.

But there were plenty of departures on the final day. Axel Disasi completed a loan to West Ham, Ato Ampah joined Stoke City for £3m, and duo Aaron Anselmino and David Fofana joined Strasbourg.

Kaveh Solhekol hints at big permanent option in George loan

George, 19, has joined Everton on loan with a permanent option. The teenage winger has been lured to Merseyside, with Jack Grealish set for a spell on the sidelines. It comes after a lack of Chelsea game time.

In the summer, George came within a whisker of joining West London rivals Fulham for £22m. But he stayed at Chelsea, and it prevented Harry Wilson from joining Leeds, a blessing in disguise for Fulham.

Now, George has joined Everton on loan, with an option. The size of that option remains unclear but on Sky Sports on Monday evening, reporter Kaveh Solhekol hints it is bigger than the £22m summer fee.

“What does surprise me is the size of the option. I’ve been told what the price is, but been asked not to reveal it. The option price is significant and is more than Fulham were willing to pay for him last summer.”

Why Chelsea and George have decided to sanction a loan exit

Reports emerged over the weekend that George had been feeling frustrated over a lack of game time at Stamford Bridge. Under Enzo Maresca, George was given ample opportunity in Chelsea’s first team.

Perhaps easier last season, given Chelsea’s participation in the Conference League. This term, George has managed just 11 appearances, and since Rosenior arrived, the versatile attacker has failed to play once.

Indeed, George has only managed to make the matchday squad in four of seven occasions under the new gaffer. That seems to have convinced the Blues academy product to leave Chelsea and join Everton.
