"Special" Liverpool player now in "talks" over new agreement that could affect his future

Liverpool midfielder Harvey Elliott is now “set for talks” with Aston Villa over a potential change to his current agreement at the club, according to journalist Tom Collomosse.

The 22-year-old moved to Villa for the 2025/26 season last summer, with Arne Slot making it clear that he didn’t consider him a key part of his plans.

Elliott will have hoped to play a starring role in the Midlands, but instead, he has endured a campaign to forget, starting only one match in the Premier League for the Villans.

There have been rumours of the midfielder returning to Liverpool in January, but that ship has now sailed, following the close of the window on Monday.

But there could still be a change to Elliott’s loan agreement at Villa between now and the end of the season, with Collomosse taking to X to claim as much:

“Villa and LFC set for talks over his loan arrangement, which can happen after the deadline has passed. Current situation doesn’t suit either the player or the clubs. Possible the appearance target is raised, or obligation (to buy) becomes option.”

Can Elliott resurrect his Liverpool career this summer?

Elliott is such a gifted young footballer with so much to offer, not least a wand-like left foot, with Jordan Henderson not holding back in his praise for him back in 2021:

“Harvey’s a special player. He’s been fantastic last season when he was on loan at Blackburn and then he’s come back in great shape for pre-season and done really well, so he deserved his start today and I thought he took it. I thought he was outstanding, his work rate, but also obviously the stuff he can do on the ball, the final passes. Overall I thought he was outstanding.”

While Liverpool could benefit from having Elliott back this summer, in terms of squad depth, he has reached a point in his career where he needs to be a key starter for a team.

It is difficult to see that happening at Anfield, especially with Florian Wirtz now beginning to purr in a Reds shirt, so a permanent summer exit makes sense, sad though it would be to see him leave.
