Three players Liverpool could still sign despite winter transfer window closing

Liverpool could sign three players despite the January transfer window closing.

On Monday night, the winter transfer window slammed shut, with Liverpool adding no new players to their squad despite injuries to the likes of Conor Bradley, Jeremie Frimpong and Giovanni Leoni.

On Sunday, it was reported that Liverpool had shown interest in Lutsharel Geertruida, but a deal failed to materialise.

Instead, the Reds are said to be closing in on a deal to sign Rennes defender Jeremy Jacquet in a deal worth a reported fee of £60 million.

However, the youngest will only move to Anfield in the summer.

Transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano wrote on social media: "BREAKING: Jeremy Jacquet to Liverpool, here we go! Deal agreed now for June 2026, as revealed. Understand the fee is €60m plus €10m add-ons to Rennes. Jeremy has agreed personal terms with LFC.

"Agreement done for summer 2026 for one of the most talented CBs in the world."

Now, despite the January window being shut, Liverpool could still sign players via the free transfer market.

Although extremely unlikely, Liverpool could look at defenders with Leoni, Bradley and Frimpong out, plus Joe Gomez's fitness issues.

As per Transfermarkt, ex-West Ham United and Chelsea man Kurt Zouma could be a potential option, as he is currently without a club.

Zouma would bring Premier League experience and much-needed cover for the Reds.

Meanwhile, the likes of Jason Denayer and Daniel Amartey are also free agents.

Moving away from defence, another unlikely free agent transfer could be Raheem Sterling, who is looking for a new club after leaving Chelsea.

Although he left in controversial style when he moved from Anfield to Manchester City, Sterling could again provide cover in attack.

Another option could be Allan Saint-Maximin, with the ex-Newcastle United star now searching for a new club after leaving Mexican side Club America.
