Flashpoint: Enzo Fernandez and Martin Zubimendi clashed when Arsenal beat Chelsea in the first leg last month

The Gunners head into Tuesday evening’s latest London derby showdown at the Emirates Stadium holding a 3-2 advantage from the semi-final first leg last month.

Ben White and Viktor Gyokeres fired Arsenal into a 2-0 lead at Stamford Bridge, helped by two errors from Robert Sanchez, only for Chelsea to twice fight back through Alejandro Garnacho’s brace - with his goals coming either side of a fine third for Mikel Arteta’s side through Martin Zubimendi, who clashed with Enzo Fernandez as tempers flared after the final whistle.

Premier League leaders Arsenal will be favourites to book their spot at Wembley on March 22, having emphatically recovered from their recent title wobble by thrashing Leeds 4-0 at Elland Road on Saturday.

They will hope it proves to be another key step in pursuit of a glut of major silverware during what could yet prove to be a very special season indeed, as they also remain undefeated in the Champions League and alive in the FA Cup.

However, the narrow deficit thanks to Garnacho and their recent record of comebacks will give Chelsea plenty of hope, having fought from behind twice under Liam Rosenior to defeat both Napoli and West Ham over the last week.

The two sides played out a heated 1-1 draw in the top-flight back in November, with Moises Caicedo sent off as Mikel Merino’s header cancelled out an opener from Trevoh Chalobah.

Chelsea are winless in their last nine meetings against Arsenal, having not beaten them in any competition since 2021.
