Newcastle United team news v Manchester City: Sven Botman was spotted in training ahead of Wednesday’s Carabao Cup semi-final second leg.
The Magpies will be looking to bounce back from a 4-1 defeat at Liverpool on Saturday and overturn a 2-0 defecit from the first leg defeat at St James’ Park last month.
But Newcastle have never won or scored away to Manchester City in five attempts under Eddie Howe, a trend they will have to buck in order to make a third Carabao Cup final in four seasons. Even then, it may not be enough.
NUFC injury boost
Sven Botman was an unused substitute for Saturday’s defeat at Anfield with Howe claiming after the match that the Dutch centre-back was effectively unusable for the match due to a thigh issue.
But the 26-year-old has since been spotted taking part in training ahead of the Man City match.
Lewis Miley was also in a similar situation at Liverpool due to a knee issue, but was not pictured in training on Monday. But his younger brother, Mason Miley, was part of a hybrid group of first-team and academy players training at Darsley Park.
The 17-year-old midfielder was spotted training alongside the likes of Botman, Nick Woltemade, Yoane Wissa, Jacob Murphy and William Osula.

NUFC call upon youngsters
In addition to the younger Miley brother, 16-year-old midfielder Isaac Moran was one of several youngsters called up to train alongside the first-team.
Other players included, but were not limited to, Scott Bailey (20), Miodrag Pivas (20), Aidan Harris (19), Dylan Charlton (19), Park Seung-Soo (18) and Vakhtang Salia (18).
Leo Shahar, Alex Murphy and Sean Neave have trained regularly with the first-team this season and remained with the group ahead of the trip to Manchester City.
Newcastle United team news
Bruno Guimaraes (ankle), Miley (knee) and Botman (thigh) are doubts for the trip to the Etihad Stadium though the signs are looking positive for the latter.
Tino Livramento (hamstring), Joelinton (groin), Fabian Schar (ankle) and Emil Krafth (knee) are all set to miss the trip.
Newcastle have no suspension concerns for the match though Man City won’t be able to call upon January signing Marc Guehi despite the rule change that allows players to represent two clubs in the same competition.
As Guehi joined Man City after the first leg was played at St James’ Park, he cannot feature in the second leg.
