Liverpool had a fairly quiet 2026 winter transfer window, but they have the financial capacity to ‘go big’ later this year, as Rousing The Kop learned on Monday.
Aside from a couple of youth prospects who will be part of the U21 set-up, Jeremy Jacquet was the only signing completed by the Reds.
Jacquet’s transfer fee has been mocked in France, while the player will not move to Anfield until the summer.

Instead, Liverpool fans will have to watch Rennes if they want to see the 20-year-old in action before June.
When he does arrive, it remains to be seen how Jacquet will fit into Arne Slot’s backline, but Jamie Carragher has a theory on what will now happen with the club’s backline.
Jamie Carragher suggests Ibrahima Konate will leave Liverpool
At present, Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konate are Liverpool’s only fit centre-backs.
19-year-old Giovanni Leoni and versatile defender Joe Gomez are currently injured.

Leoni will return for the 2026/27 season, while Gomez’s future has been questioned.
Meanwhile, Konate, who joined in 2021 for £35m [BBC], is due to be out of contract in the summer, and when speaking to Sky Sports on Monday evening, Carragher shared his view that the Frenchman will leave and that Liverpool will sign a new partner for Van Dijk.
Commenting on the Jacquet transfer, he said: “I think, I don’t know what you’re saying in terms of getting somebody right now. I think when you look stylistically at what a centre back is, it tells me Konate is probably not signing.
“I think Liverpool are going to go and buy a proper centre-back in the summer, like I would imagine would play alongside Virgil van Dijk.
“And then you’ve got two really good young centre-backs, but they still need games, they still need to play. But one of them in Leoni is coming back after an ACL, so it’s not going to be an easy season for him next season. Virgil van Dijk is also going to be on the back of the World Cup. He’s going to be 12 months older.
“So I think Liverpool will, if Konate doesn’t sign, they sign another player to replace Konate, you know, top of the range centre-back to play right now, and then you’ve got these two to look back. And I still think they’ll get plenty of games.”
Liverpool move for centre-back now looks unlikely
Heading into the summer, there were a couple of potential options for the Reds.
Nico Schloterbeck has been linked amid his Borussia Dortmund future being up in the air.
Elsewhere, there has been talk about a potential move for Dayot Upamecano of Bayern Munich.
However, it was shared on Monday that the Frenchman, who was due to be out of contract this summer, has now agreed a new deal with the German side until 2030.
