Club director left almost speechless after being offered forward Chelsea paid £50m for

One former Chelsea star could have been involved in what would have arguably been the most surprising transfer of January.

A few players left Stamford Bridge in the winter transfer window, including Axel Disasi and Tyrique George.

Disasi joined West Ham United on loan, while George signed for Everton in another temporary deal, though it is thought that they have the option to buy the 19-year-old at the end of the season.

Who has been the worst signing of the Todd Boehly era at Chelsea? 👎

Horst Heldt couldn’t believe Union Berlin were offered Raheem Sterling

Sterling is yet to sign for anyone, but Union Berlin’s managing director Horst Heldt has revealed that the former Chelsea forward was offered to the German club.

It was a development that left Heldt surprised to say the least. He told Sky Sport: “Sometimes you have to rub your eyes… In this case, it didn’t really seem serious. We didn’t pursue it any further.”

Chelsea paid Manchester City £50m to sign Sterling back in 2022, but the 31-year-old failed to justify that fee.

After underwhelming in his first two seasons in west London, Sterling was eventually frozen out of the first-team squad before having his contract torn up.

Sterling spent last term on loan at Arsenal but also struggled to make much of an impact there, failing to score a single Premier League goal.

The number of clubs Raheem Sterling has been talking to

Following his departure from Chelsea, Sterling has reportedly spoken to seven different clubs.

Interest in the England international is hardly a surprise. He is a Premier League-proven attacker with loads of experience and an excellent goal record.

However, you suspect his wage demands could be an issue for interested parties. In fact, his salary is why Chelsea found it so difficult to get rid of him.

Fortunately for Chelsea’s owners, Sterling is no longer their problem and they will not have to worry about finding a buyer for the former City man in the summer. It will now be interesting to see where he ends up.
