The 32-year-old veteran said the first thing he thought about after the trade was his family, though he is also excited about the new opportunity and joining a winning team.

"At first I was thinking about my family, of course. And they live with me here. And we've been through it a little bit already last season, so I was, of course, thinking about them," Schroder said.

"My second thought was the house, the moving part, or the furniture we have here to bring to Cleveland. And my third thought was to, you know, be excited about the new team, the new opportunity, because they compete every single game and they want to win."

Schroder said he is especially excited to play for Cavaliers head coach Kenny Atkinson, with whom he has a long-standing relationship dating back to their time with the Atlanta Hawks.

"I'm really, really excited to play for Kenny [Atkinson]. I mean, I've been with him since 2013, when we started our relationship in Atlanta. He was the assistant coach back then. I was fresh in the league," he noted.

"We started building a relationship together, and he played for my hometown team—the team I bought probably like four to five years ago. He played for them, so he got a connection to Europe and to Germany, and now we get to play together. Seeing all the great things he did the last couple of years in Brooklyn and in Cleveland—it's big time. So I'm really excited to join the club."

Talking about his role on the team, Schroder said he plans to bring toughness, make winning plays, and mentor younger players.

"My world is the same wherever I go. I'm just bringing the toughness, giving everything I have on every possession, picking up full court, making the right basketball plays. And yeah, bringing kind of the dog mentality to the team," he said.

"I think I can be great in that role, making sure I'm a mentor for all the younger guards. And yeah, I mean, I've been doing this a couple of years now. So, yeah, I'm really excited to join the club," he added.

Schroder, who averaged 12.8 points and 5.3 rebounds in his first season with Sacramento, heads to Cleveland after signing a three-year deal with the Kings last summer.

The 13-year NBA veteran is now joining his 11th team and has been traded eight times, tying him for the second-most trades in league history. Trevor Ariza holds the record with 11.

The German playmaker is also closing in on Ish Smith's NBA record of suiting up for 13 different teams.

Schroder is owed $14.1 million, $14.8 million, and $15.5 million over the final three years of his contract, with the last season partially guaranteed.
