The only addition to the first team squad was the recall of Mamadou Sarr from his loan spell at Strasbourg, as the Blues looked to add to their centre-back depth.
Chelsea pushed hard to sign Jeremy Jacquet from Rennes, however lost out in the race to his signature to Liverpool.

It was actually quite busy as far as centre-backs go for Chelsea. The Blues felt the need to replace Sarr at Strasbourg, and ended up sending Aaron Anselmino to France for the rest of the season.

Chelsea have ‘beef’ with Borussia Dortmund after January transfer window
This was despite the youngster impressing during his time at Borussia Dortmund, although Chelsea were not happy with the Bundesliga side for apparently tapping him up.
The Argentine had featured 10 times for Dortmund in all competitions, however had been suffering with injuries that had stopped him playing more.
Journalist Kieran Gill has stated to the Mail Online that the two clubs competing in the Champions League now have a little bit of ‘beef’ following the Blues’ January conduct.
He went on to say that Dortmund dispute those claims, however it remains to be seen whether it affects what has been a long-standing working relationship.

Last summer saw Chelsea sign Jamie Gittens from Dortmund, and while it has so far not worked out for the winger, there was plenty of excitement when they got the deal over the line.

Carney Chukwuemeka went the other way after an initial loan spell there, with that looking like what they were planning to happen with Anselmino.
Elsewhere, the Blues previously signed Christian Pulisic from Dortmund, and have moved Ian Maatsen and Michy Batshuayi to the German club in the past on loan.
