Newcastle United have been dealt a huge potential double blow ahead of their Carabao Cup semi-final second leg at Man City.
The Magpies go into the clash without defensive stars such as Fabian Schar, Emil Krafth and Tino Livramento. But Eddie Howe has been dealt a more immediate issue with Bruno Guimaraes and Lewis Miley serious doubts.
Bruno is still struggling with an ankle injury suffered in the Champions League clash against PSV Eindhoven while Miley felt pain in the warm-up in the 4-1 defeat at Liverpool.
Speaking ahead of the last four encounter at the Etihad Stadium, Howe said: "Yeah, Bruno's doing well. I don't think he'll make this game, but there's a chance for the weekend. Sven Botman’s okay. Lewis, I'm not sure he'll make this game either."
Howe knows his side are up against it in the North-West as they look to overturn a 2-0 deficit, and reflected: "The second goal in the first game was a big disappointment for us coming so late but we still believe. We believe we have the players that can go to any stadium in the world and perform and score goals.
"Collectively, the spirit within the group is there. It's going to be an almighty challenge and there's no bigger challenge than Manchester City away but we believe in ourselves and will give it a good go."
Newcastle go into the game on the back of a 4-1 defeat at Anfield, summing up the mood after the heavy defeat, Howe said: "Part of the Liverpool performance, for the first 30-35 minutes, was really strong.
"Against Paris, we had a strong performance all the way through, bar the first 20 minutes. Put those two together and we've got an outstanding chance.
"Firstly, we have to try and win the game. If we have that mentality that we're going to try and get all the disciplines of our game in a good place and attack the game, let's see what we can do."
