The striker moved on from Deepdale last summer

AFC Wimbledon have signed former Preston North End striker Layton Stewart on loan.

The 23-year-old makes the temporary move to the League One side from FC Thun. Stewart joined the Swiss Super League outfit on a permanent basis in the summer, after spending time on loan there in the second half of last season.

FC Thun won the Swiss Challenge League last year and now sit top of the Super League, after 22 games. Stewart has made six appearances in all competitions but all of those off the bench, with 76 minutes played in total.

He joins Wimbledon, who are placed 17th in the third tier after 27 games. PNE signed from Liverpool in the summer of 2023 and he made 16 first team appearances overall, without scoring.

“Will add a different option.”

Manager Johnnie Jackson said: "We’re really pleased to secure the signing of Layton. He is a versatile, enthusiastic and energetic forward and as soon as we spoke he showed a real willingness to come to Wimbledon."

Director of Football Craig Cope added: “We are delighted to welcome Layton to Wimbledon. He comes to us after a year in Switzerland, where he contributed towards FC Thun’s promotion last season. He will add a different option to our attacking ranks."
