Leicester City have sealed a late deal for Manchester City prospect Divine Mukasa, who has joined on loan until the end of the season.

Signed in the final hours of the window and announced on Tuesday, the 18-year-old attacking midfielder comes in to strengthen City’s options in forward areas and to help them cope with the injury losses of Jordan James and Aaron Ramsey.

Mukasa is a highly-rated England Under-19 international who has been in and around the first-team squad at Manchester City this season.

He made his senior debut for the club in September, setting up a goal for Phil Foden in a Carabao Cup win over Huddersfield, and has now made six appearances for Pep Guardiola’s side.

At Under-21 level this season, he has scored seven goals in 13 outings, but it was last season’s terrific numbers that saw him promoted to first-team contention.

Across the Under-18 Premier League, Uefa Youth League and FA Youth Cup, Mukasa scored 17 goals and registered a whopping 24 assists across 34 appearances.

While primarily an attacking midfielder, Mukasa has played deeper from time to time but has also intriguingly played up front, operating as a false nine.

That could see him considered as an alternative to Jordan Ayew and Patson Daka, but it’s more likely that he will compete with Bobby De Cordova-Reid for the number 10 slot.

On Saturday, interim boss Andy King confirmed that City had been tracking him for some time.

King said: “He’s a very promising young player. It’s something the club have been trying to pursue. If we can get him, that’s great news. We’ve seen a lot of him and we rate him very highly.”
