Newcastle United team news: Eddie Howe provided updates on Lewis Miley, Bruno Guimaraes and Sven Botman ahead of Wednesday’s trip to Manchester City.
Newcastle United are set to be without two more key players for Wednesday’s decisive Carabao Cup semi-final at Manchester City.
The Magpies will be looking to overturn a 2-0 deficit from the first leg defeat at St James’ Park last month in order to reach a third Carabao Cup final in four seasons.
But Newcastle have never won or even scored at Manchester City under Eddie Howe. Though the club’s only ever win at the Etihad Stadium came in this competition back in 2014 with Rolando Aarons and Moussa Sissoko scoring in a 2-0 win.

Newcastle United injury concerns
Newcastle will be without several key players for the trip with Tino Livramento, Joelinton, Fabian Schar and Emil Krafth all ruled out.
Bruno Guimaraes missed Saturday’s 4-1 defeat at Liverpool with an ankle issue, while Lewis Miley and Sven Botman were unused substitutes.
“Sven had a tight thigh and we were under the advice not to use him,” Howe said after Liverpool. “The reason they were here and on the bench was because we were giving them every opportunity to declare themselves fit.
“And of course, in the warm-up they might have felt different. The recovery time is so small, you don’t always get the information that you need in the speed that you need it.
“With Lewy, yeah, he couldn’t bend his knee with sufficient angles to declare himself fit.”
When asked if any players would be back against Manchester City, Howe said: “I’d say probably the best chances we have would be Sven and Lewy, who were on the bench [v Liverpool].
“Bruno, I’m not 100% sure whether he’ll make it or not, there’s a chance. The others, no.”
Eddie Howe provides NUFC injury update
But when asked for a further update ahead of the trip to Manchester City, Howe ruled Guimaraes and Miley out of the game.
“Yeah, Bruno's doing well,” Howe said. “Don't think he'll make this game, but there's a chance for the weekend.
“Sven Botman is okay [but] Lewy, I'm not sure he'll make this game either.”
