Liverpool supporters can finally breathe a sigh of relief as the January transfer window officially slammed shut on Monday evening.

While the winter window is typically quieter than its summer counterpart, Liverpool demonstrated their intent by securing a significant coup on deadline day. The club reached a verbal agreement with Rennes to sign 20-year-old French centre-back Jeremy Jacquet in a deal worth up to £60 million. The move sees Jacquet, who underwent his medical in England on deadline day, sign a contract until 2031 with the club holding an option to extend by a further 12 months.

Though the deal won’t come into effect until the summer of 2026, it represents a statement of intent from Arne Slot’s side.

However, one deal has been completed on the Liverpool FC Women’s front, with goalkeeper Rafaela Borggrafe sealing a loan switch to Bayer Leverkusen for the remainder of the 2025-26 season.

The 25-year-old German shot-stopper arrived at Anfield last summer on a free transfer from SC Freiburg, but her time at Liverpool has been marred by controversy. Borggrafe served a six-match suspension for using discriminatory language towards a teammate during a pre-season squad photoshoot, an incident that came to light following a Football Association investigation launched in September.

With just four appearances across all competitions for the Reds, Borggrafe’s opportunities became increasingly limited following the January arrival of Jennifer Falk on loan.

The loan move offers Borggrafe a lifeline to revive her stalled career through regular playing time with third-placed Leverkusen in the Frauen-Bundesliga. With at least another year remaining on her Liverpool contract, the German will hope to use this spell back in her homeland to rebuild her reputation.
