£3m transfer fee could be beaten by £20m+ later this season if January moves pay off for Chelsea

We told you all along to expect a quiet January for Chelsea, and so it proved to be.

There were no first team additions beyond the early recall of Mamadou Sarr from Strasbourg. The Frenchman was replaced at our sister club by Aaron Anselmino, himself recalled from Dortmund.

David Datro Fofana also went to the French side until the end of the season, adding more firepower up front. Axel Disasi escaped the bomb squad to join West Ham on loan, while Raheem Sterling left by mutual consent.

All in all, there was a fair bit going on, but it was more housekeeping than anything else.

Chelsea outgoings could still pay off

The biggest potential outgoing was Tyrique George, who left on a loan to Everton. The Toffees have an option to buy, we’d imagine around the £20m mark, and if they take it up that will make this a major deal.

As it stands though, Ato Ampah’s move to Stoke City from our youth team for £3m was the biggest cash sum we received.

With that money banked but no major additions made, our summer now looks like it could be pretty busy. There will be holes to fill throughout the team, and funds available to do it, especially if the likes of George and Nicolas Jackson are sold permanently for good money.

In other news…

Enzo Fernandez is Chelsea’s most expensive ever January signing, and he’s just reached the three year mark at the club. His stats from that time are really impressive – few can match him.

Without any new additions having been made, Chelsea had a free run to move on Tyrique George at the deadline. He secured a loan to Everton which has an option to buy included, according to sources like Fabrizio Romano.
