Liverpool have now been provided with a major update on the future of a "sensational" star, who was "waiting" for a move to Anfield.
Reds looking to kick on despite quiet deadline day
The pressure on Arne Slot has subsided somewhat, at least for the time being, following the recent uptick in form, with the Reds winning their last two matches in emphatic fashion, defeating Qarabag 6-0 before going on to beat Newcastle United 4-1.
As such, the Reds will be hoping to kick on as we edge closer to the business end of the season, with qualifying for the Champions League of key importance, and they remain just two points behind fourth-place Manchester United.
Having invested heavily during the summer, it was a quiet January transfer window for the Merseysiders, but they did manage to get one deal over the line, with Jeremy Jacquet set to join from Rennes at the end of the season.
Jacquet was not the only defender Slot's side looked at, with it being revealed they also eyed a late move for Bayern Munich centre-back Dayot Upamecano, who was "waiting" for a move to Anfield, according to Sky Sports reporter Florian Plettenberg.
There has now been a new update on Upamecano's future, with a report from TEAMtalk revealing Liverpool were informed the defender had signed a contract extension at Bayern Munich on deadline day.

The Reds had been hoping to sign the Frenchman on a free transfer in the summer, but they are now set to miss out, with one source saying: "Dayot has agreed to stay and it is a huge boost to the club, they knew there was some strong interest, particularly from England, but the player has opted to stay – Bayern are very happy."
Upamecano could have been "sensational" signing
Following confirmation of the signing of Jacquet, Jamie Carragher suggested Slot still needs to sign another centre-back, saying: "Yes I am pleased they have made a signing in that area. Liverpool need reinforcements in that area but they definitely need that in the summer.
"It looks like Ibrahima Konate is going to move on, as he hasn’t signed a contract yet, so I think they are getting young centre-backs for the future."

There could be a change in the Anfield dugout...
With Jacquet just 20-years-old and still inexperienced, it would've made sense to bring in a more proven centre-back, and the Bayern star fits the bill, having made 63 Champions League appearances.
Moreover, the 27-year-old has been solid defensively for the German side this season, averaging a combined 2.2 tackles and interceptions per game in the Bundesliga, the second-highest figure in the squad.
Lauded as "sensational" by journalist Muhammad Butt, Upamecano could have been the ideal addition to Liverpool's backline.
