Draymond Green reportedly is bracing for the end of his Warriors tenure

By the end of this week, Draymond Green and the Golden State Warriors could see their title-winning partnership draw to a close.

As the Warriors try to put the pieces in place to acquire Milwaukee Bucks superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo, Green and his entourage reportedly understand that there is a "very real chance" that Golden State will trade the former Defensive Player of the Year by Thursday's trade deadline.

"Jimmy Butler has been given strong indications that the Warriors plan to ‘stick by him as he begins a year-long rehab’ from his recently torn ACL," The Athletic's Sam Amick wrote. "And if Butler isn’t in the proposed deal — based on the economics and league rules — then Green is.”

Green, a four-time NBA champion with the Warriors and a future Basketball Hall of Fame inductee, signed a four-year, $100 million contract extension in 2023. He holds a player option for the 2026/27 season.

The 35-year-old could feasibly decline the option and hit free agency in the summer -- unless he works out a contract buyout with the Bucks following a proposed Antetokounmpo trade.

But either way, Green is the only contract that Golden State is both willing to trade and makes sense financially as a chip to land Giannis in what would be a franchise-altering move.

It would end Green's 14-year tenure with the Warriors, for whom he has played 1,091 games between the regular season and the playoffs.

"I’ve been here for 14 years. I have no reason to sit and worry about leaving," Green told the media last week. "But if I’m traded, that’s part of the business.”
