To make the deal work financially, the Raptors would likely need a third team to take either Jakob Poeltl or Immanuel Quickley.
First-round draft pick compensation would also be part of the equation given the large contracts of the players involved.
"Do they end up with Domantas Sabonis, who they've been looking at since the summer? There have been talks with the Sacramento Kings, and they've involved R.J. Barrett and Ochai Agbaji, and R.J. Barrett," Michael Scotto said on FAN590 and Sportsnet.
"Toronto's been trying to get off Agbaji to duck the luxury tax. The big question here would be whether there would be a third team to take either Immanuel Quickley or Jakob Poeltl to kind of help make the finances work. And obviously, there would be first-round draft pick compensation involved here because those guys have a lot of money owed to them, and they are not viewed as a positive asset around the league."
Sabonis has appeared in 18 games this season, averaging 15.4 points, 11.2 rebounds, and 4.2 assists per game. His scoring, rebounding, and playmaking would provide Toronto with a major boost in the frontcourt.
The Kings have also been active on the trade market. Sacramento recently acquired DeAndre Hunter from the Cleveland Cavaliers in a three-team deal that sent Dennis Schroder and Keon Ellis to the Chicago Bulls.
This shows that the Kings are willing to make roster moves, but financial flexibility remains a key factor in any potential Sabonis deal.
