Arsenal inquiry for player turned away – One to watch for the summer instead

they Arsenal are showing an interest in Ajax’s Mika Godts and enquired about him already ahead of a potential move.

That’s according to Voetbal International, relayed by Het Laatste Nieuws. The newspaper reports that Arsenal were one of several sides to ask about the 20-year-old.

Godts has been Ajax’s most decisive player this season, with ten goals and seven assists in 19 games in the Eredivisie so far. That has, naturally, generated a lot of interest in him.

According to VI, that includes some of Europe’s elite. The newspaper report that Arsenal and Barcelona in particular have inquired about the youngster. That, though, was quickly pushed back by Ajax.

Godts is one of few bright spots in another season to forget for the Dutch club. He’s their most influential player and they don’t want to lose him just yet. They especially didn’t want to lose him in the January transfer window.

Thus they treated inquiries from Roma, Napoli, Arsenal, Barcelona and VfB Stuttgart with little interest. They made it clear that a departure would only be negotiable for the summer transfer window. Godts is currently valued at €15m.

Given the inflated deals for some players, that’s a figure many are likely to bite at. Whether Arsenal are one of them, remains to be seen. But they’re keen and have already inquired about the 20-year-old according to VI.
