Donovan Mitchell uncertainty sparks trade buzz in Cleveland

The Cleveland Cavaliers are reportedly worried that Donovan Mitchell may not re-sign this summer, prompting the team to explore trades involving core players like Darius Garland and Jarrett Allen.

The Cleveland Cavaliers are reportedly concerned that star guard Donovan Mitchell may not re-sign with the team this summer, sources tell ESPN’s Brian Windhorst.

This uncertainty is reportedly shaping the team’s long-term plans and willingness to move key players.

"The key here is that the Cavs are moving away from believing in this core," Windhorst said, per ESPN Cleveland. "And I think the genesis of this is because they're worried that Donovan is not going to re-sign this summer. And, you know, I think they, you know, they believed that this season was going to work out. They believed in the core of this season, and that the Donovan thing was changing their mind."

"So they are exploring, and this is what, you know, was making its way around the league in the last week or two, is that they are willing to move and willing to talk about these core pieces. And so now you have, it's out there that they are interested and willing to move Garland, and they are interested and willing to move Jared Allen."

Mitchell has been a key contributor for Cleveland this season. In 47 games played, he is averaging 28.8 points, 4.6 rebounds, and 5.8 assists per game, while shooting 48.3 percent from the field and 38.2 percent from three-point range.

League sources suggest the Cavs are now actively exploring trade possibilities for core players like Darius Garland and Jarrett Allen, signaling a potential shift away from the current roster if Mitchell does not commit long-term.
