Leicester City have made a surprise striker signing with Chelsea’s Dujuan Richards joining on a loan deal until the end of the season.

Confirmed nearly 24 hours after Monday's transfer deadline, Jamaica international Richards has been brought in to give City the striker signing that they had made their priority at the very start of the window.

His arrival comes as a shock, with the deal first emerging as a possibility in the final hours of deadline day. He becomes the fourth City signing of the window, following Joe Aribo, Jamaal Lascelles and Divine Mukasa through the door.

And he's the least experiened of the quartet, with Richards yet to play a senior game of club football in England, having joined Chelsea from his native Jamaica in January 2024.

Upon his arrival at Stamford Bridge, Richards made an immediate impact for their Under-21s, scoring seven goals in 10 Premier League 2 matches.

He missed the whole of last season with an ACL tear but returned this campaign, and has so far scored two goals in 11 outings for Chelsea’s Under-21s, but mostly playing as a right winger.

City went into the January window wanting a striker, and it looked for a long time as it would be veteran forward Michail Antonio, who spent a few weeks training at the club as a free agent. That deal broke down after Antonio picked up a muscle injury at Seagrave.

The club then turned their attention to Ibrahim Diabate, who finished joint-top scorer in the Swedish top flight last season, but reports of advanced talks never materialised into a transfer.

Now, Richards is the man coming in. City supporters wanted a prolific goal-getter to rival Jordan Ayew and Patson Daka, and the inexperienced Richards is not that.

But it should not be too expensive of a gamble and could be a masterstroke if Richards is able to show the form he did when he first arrived in England.
