Report: Cavs-Clippers close in on Harden-for-Garland deal

The Cleveland Cavaliers and Los Angeles Clippers are in discussions on a trade that will send 11-time All-Star James Harden to Ohio in exchange for a package headlined by Darius Garland, Yahoo! Sports’ Chris Haynes reports.

Word of the Cavs’ interest came on Monday.

Haynes notes that both sides are motivated to complete a deal “relatively soon” with the NBA trade deadline set for Thursday afternoon.

A native of Los Angeles, the 36-year-old Harden is in his 17th NBA season out of Arizona State. He’s appeared in 44 games this season, averaging 25.4 points on .419 shooting with 8.1 assists and 4.8 boards over 35.4 minutes a night. Harden is shooting .347 from three.

Garland, 26, is in his seventh NBA season out of Vanderbilt. A two-time All-Star, the Gary, IN native is averaging 18.0 PPG on .451 shooting with 6.9 APG and 2.4 RPG over 30.5 MPG.

Harden has a $42.3 million player option for 2026-2027, while Garland is in the third season of a five-year, $197.2 million deal.
