Jacquet chose Liverpool amid interest from Chelsea, Bayern Munich and Man United to name a few.

It’s a rare enough win for the Reds, who have so often been pipped to their top targets by Premier League rivals in recent seasons.
Liverpool staff are delighted with Jeremy Jacquet ‘coup’
All signs pointed towards the young Frenchman heading to Stamford Bridge, until Liverpool stole a march on the London side in the dying embers of the window.
The need for a defensive rebuild was well-documented, and the addition of Jacquet was seen as a must.
David Lynch discussed the late move in a recent YouTube video, where he shared the feeling he has gotten from inside sources.

He reveals: “If you’d asked anyone around the club really around a week ago, I think they would have said that Chelsea were the real favourites to acquire him because they put in so much leg work.

“Yet, Liverpool made a really late push. They made a sales pitch to the player. they were able to convince him that Anfield was the right place for him and by the end it was the only place he wanted to go.
“So they were able to beat Chelsea to his signature and I’m pretty sure that is considered a pretty big coup by the recruitment staff at Liverpool.”
Jaquet’s idols are Ibrahima Konate and Virgil van Dijk, so the prospect of playing with them surely played a part in his decision, but it also sounds like the pitch from Liverpool went a long way towards convincing him to come in the summer.
Liverpool are becoming a real player in the transfer market
Liverpool are one of Europe’s biggest clubs, but that hasn’t always translated to dominance in the transfer window.
Oftentimes, FSG looked at less established names who they felt could take the next step under the right guidance — an approach that paid dividends durig Jurgen Klopp’s time at Anfield.
Now, the approach has changed somewhat.
Liverpool are constantly linked with some of the biggest names in Europe, and the signing of Florian Wirtz and Alexander Isak last summer shows they are now shopping on the high street, as it were.
Mohamed Salah could leave Liverpool this summer after more links to the Saudi Pro League.

Should he go, we can expect his replacement to be another world-class signing — if recent history is anything to go by.
