Liverpool’s injury problems fuelled transfer speculation in the January transfer window, particularly in defence where options are limited. Injuries to Joe Gomez and Jeremie Frimpong prompted late interest in Lutsharel Geertruida, but a move collapsed after Sunderland failed to secure a replacement.
The Reds have since agreed a deal to sign Stade Rennais defender Jeremy Jacquet, who will remain in Ligue 1 for the rest of the season before joining Liverpool ahead of the 2026–27 campaign. The 20-year-old France U21 international has made 18 league appearances so far this season.
Despite the agreement, Arne Slot continues to contend with fitness issues, highlighted by youngster Amara Nallo being named on the bench against Newcastle United last weekend.
Nallo was named in Liverpool’s U19 side that suffered a 2-1 defeat away to MSK Zilina in the last 32 of the UEFA Youth League on Tuesday afternoon.
Kieran Morrison gave the young Reds an early lead, but MSK Zilina responded in front of a sell-out crowd of over 10,000. Fabian Bzdyl equalised late in the first half before Frantisek Kosa scored the winner in the 65th minute.
Nallo was forced off injured in the 85th minute against MSK Zilina and replaced by Lucus Clarke. The Reds recently promoted Nallo from List B of their Champions League squad ahead of their clash with Qarabag.
The 19-year-old, who joined from West Ham in 2023, has had a turbulent start to his senior career. Nallo was sent off just four minutes into his debut last season after replacing Jayden Danns in a 3-2 Champions League loss to PSV Eindhoven.
His second senior appearance saw him last only 12 minutes before another red card in a 3-0 Carabao Cup defeat to Crystal Palace, making him the only player in Liverpool history to be sent off in consecutive matches.
