Grizzlies are actively shopping Ja Morant as trade talks continue to heat up ahead of the deadline.
The Memphis Grizzlies are continuing to explore trade options involving franchise guard Ja Morant as the NBA trade deadline approaches, according to Shams Charania of ESPN.
Memphis Grizzlies / Schedule
After already making a major roster move that Jaren Jackson Jr. out of Memphis, league executives now view Morant as the next big name on the market.
The Grizzlies have shifted direction and are clearly prioritizing a long-term rebuild built around draft capital and younger pieces.
"Grizzlies conversations around Ja Morant and entertaining offers is continuing around the league," Charania said. "There are multiple teams with interest in Ja Morant. We've seen with Desmond Bane, and now with Jaren Jackson Jr., this is a Grizzlies organization that is prioritizing their young core."
"They've had a few years of success here with Memphis, made some runs. This team looked like it had some promise, but they're now officially turning the page on this and stocking up with draft capital. But the Ja Morant trade conversation between now and Thursday's deadline is continuing to heat up."
The timing is notable. Memphis recently completed a blockbuster deal that sent Jackson Jr. to the Utah Jazz, a move that created a record-breaking 28.8 million trade exception and brought in multiple first-round picks.
That deal was widely viewed as a clear signal that the Grizzlies are entering a new phase and are open to moving even their biggest stars.
Morant, now in his sixth NBA season, has appeared in 20 games this year. He is averaging 19.5 points and 8.1 rebounds per game, while continuing to be one of the league’s most explosive guards with the ball in his hands.
