Did the Grizzlies trade Ja Morant to the Timberwolves? Explaining viral post that has duped NBA fans

Amid the Memphis Grizzlies' franchise-changing decision to deal Jaren Jackson Jr. to the Utah Jazz on Tuesday, a viral post on X broke Grizzlies fans' hearts all over again.

A post from @TheNBACentel claimed that the Grizzlies had agreed to trade two-time All-Star Ja Morant to the Minnesota Timberwolves for an undisclosed return.

As of Tuesday afternoon, the post had been viewed more than 240,000 times, and it had received 3,600 likes.

However, no Morant trade has taken place yet, two days before the NBA's trade deadline.

Even though the X post is a hoax, the Grizzlies do seem ready to move on from Morant after they dealt Jackson to the Jazz -- and the Timberwolves could be a prime destination.

Memphis reportedly considers first-round draft picks Cedric Coward and Zach Edey as their new cornerstones. The Grizzlies seem content to enter a rebuild around the two rising stars.

So, only time will tell Centel was right -- but just a little early -- on Morant getting traded in advance of Thursday's deadline.

"This trade is gonna happen in the next 48 hours," wrote one user on X.
