Los Angeles Lakers superstar guard Luka Doncic has been named the Kia NBA Western Conference Player of the Month.
The NBA announced on Tuesday.
Doncic is the winner of the West, while Boston Celtics star guard Jaylen Brown is the winner of the Eastern Conference.
The Lakers superstar has been incredible all season long, and that was no different in the month of January.
Los Angeles may have tallied a mediocre 9-7 record in the month. However, Doncic has averaged 34.0 points per game, 7.2 rebounds per game, 9.1 assists per game and 1.5 steals while shooting 50.6 percent from the field and 39.2 percent from three.
Is Luka Doncic the Cornerstone of the Lakers' Future?
The 26-year-old superstar does it all for the Lakers. In 40 games this season, the Slovenia native has averaged 33.6 points per game, leading the league in scoring, along with 8.0 rebounds, 8.8 assists and 1.5 steals. Doncic is shooting 47.6 percent from the field and 34.8 percent from beyond the arc.
The soon-to-be six-time All-Star is the face of the Lakers. That has been the case since he landed in L.A. over a year ago after one of the more shocking trades in NBA history. Everyone knows that, including the Lakers superstar LeBron James. The 41-year-old knows what it’s like to be inthe spotlight and the cornerstone of a franchise.
In a recent interview with Melissa Rohlin of the California Post, James shared the wisdom he’s shared with Doncic and said he loves everything about him.
"Just trying to lead by example, showing him the way, using my voice, using my example, using everything I can," James said. "He's now. It's not like he's next. He's right now. I just love the kid. I love everything about him. I just want him to take his journey as far as he wants to go. And I'm happy to be a small part of his journey. Hopefully, he can take something from me."
Doncic has done everything he can - and then some - to keep L.A. in contention. Soon, it will be up to the front office to return the favor.
