Milwaukee Bucks Confront End Of Giannis Era As Trade Talks Heat Up

MILWAUKEE, WI — For the first time in his career with the team, the Milwaukee Bucks are actively engaging with other franchises on potential trade scenarios involving Giannis Antetokounmpo.

ESPN reported Monday that Milwaukee has [submitted counteroffers](https://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/47809887/sources-bucks-countering-trade-offers-giannis-antetokounmpo) to teams aggressively pursuing the two-time MVP ahead of Thursday’s NBA trade deadline, marking a significant shift from the organization’s long-standing position that Antetokounmpo was untouchable.

The Bucks are 18-29 after a fifth straight loss Sunday and sit 12th in the Eastern Conference.

Antetokounmpo has played 30 games this season, averaging 28.0 points, 10.0 rebounds and 5.6 assists, but is currently sidelined with a right calf injury expected to keep him out four to six weeks.

According to ESPN, Antetokounmpo has privately indicated for months that he believes it may be time for both sides to move on after more than 12 years together. Still, the Bucks maintain leverage. He is under contract through the 2026-27 season and holds a player option for 2027-28 after signing a three-year, $186 million extension in 2023.

Milwaukee is reportedly seeking a young blue-chip player and or a significant package of draft assets in return. Teams linked to the discussions include the Miami Heat, Minnesota Timberwolves, Golden State Warriors, and New York Knicks.

The NBA trade deadline is 2 p.m. central on Thursday. Whether a deal materializes or not, the Bucks’ willingness to engage has already reshaped the league’s trade landscape.

On Tuesday, Minnesota was part of a three-team trade with the Chicago Bulls and Detroit Pistons that sent Mike Conley Jr. to the Bulls, clearing roster and salary space.
