Arsenal claimed a narrow 1-0 victory over Chelsea in the second leg of the Carabao Cup at the Emirates Stadium on Tuesday night to progress to the final 4-2 on aggregate.
Piero Hincapie had the chance to break the deadlock in the 18th minute, but his curling effort was parried away brilliantly by Robert Sanchez.
At the other end, the Blues searched for a way back into the tie as Trevor Chalobah tried his luck from a distance, but his effort flew well over the bar.
On the stroke of halftime, Enzo Fernandez saw his curling effort from 25 yards out palmed away by Kepa Arrizabalaga to keep the Gunners in control of the tie.
The first attempts of the second half came just past the hour mark, after Marc Cucurella skied his effort from range, before Fernandez sent his shot just over the post.
In the 77th minute, Gabriel Magalhaes could’ve given the host the lead after he met Martin Zubimendi’s cross at the back post, but Cucurella was there to deny the Brazilian with a great block.
At the other end, Chelsea appealed for a penalty after Gabriel Martinelli appeared to have handled the ball in the area, but after a VAR review, referee Peter Bankes waved away the appeals.
Deep into stoppage time, Kai Havertz scored the winner after he was found on the break, and the German rounded Sanchez and slotted home into an empty net to send Arsenal to the Carabao Cup final.
