Frontrunner team emerges on Giannis Antetokounmpo trade front

Per Jake Fischer, the T-Wolves are leading the Giannis trade saga over any other top candidates.

The Giannis Antetokounmpo trade saga continues to dominate league chatter with two days left before Thursday's market closing.

As teams continue to monitor and explore avenues to acquire the Greek star, NBA insider Jake Fischer revealed that the Minnesota Timberwolves are at the front of the Giannis sweepstakes.

Per Fischer, the Milwaukee Bucks are coveting the Wolves and the Miami Heat's trade offer more than what's on the table of the Golden State Warriors.

“All this momentum, it seems like Minnesota does, and we’ve written this," Fischer said in his Bleacher Report livestream on who leads the Giannis trade hunt. "I’ve heard that internally, Milwaukee values Minnesota’s potential package and Miami’s potential package more than Golden State."

Another key factor that will determine Giannis' next stop is the superstar's desire for the next major narrative in his career.

After becoming one of the best players in the world and giving the Bucks their first title in 50 years, Antetokounmpo is reportedly focused on continuing to build his legacy. As such, Fischer noted that the 31-year-old is way more compelled to either help the New York Knicks win a championship since 1973 or rally with Anthony Edwards in spearheading the small-market Timberwolves franchise.

Joining the Warriors, on the other hand, isn't reportedly ideal for Giannis due to the team's aging core and potential criticism he'll gain like Kevin Durant upon teaming up with Stephen Curry.

"He is very much focused on the story and the arc of his professional career. That has been very apparent, as we’ve all known at this point, with Giannis and his preference not to request a trade. He has not wanted to have that terminology out there. He has not wanted to be positioned as someone who turned his back on the Bucks franchise and wanted to escape Milwaukee," Fischer noted.

"That’s been just as important to him, to my understanding, from talking to people around the situation and people who are around Giannis Antetokounmpo and have some type of understanding of his thinking, that he’s cared about the narrative structure and the characterization of his next situation just as much as this exit from Milwaukee."
