Clippers Reportedly Trade James Harden Before Thursday's Deadline

The James Harden era is officially over for the Los Angeles Clippers.

Earlier this week, ESPN insider Brian Windhorst reported that Harden was mentioned in trade talks. The Cleveland Cavaliers quickly emerged as the top suitor for the future Hall of Famer.

"People I'm talking to there is real momentum for this," Windhorst said. "Darius Garland is getting in his head that he's gonna be a Clipper. James Harden is getting in his head that he's gonna be a Cav."

Well, according to ESPN's Shams Charania, the Clippers and Cavaliers have worked out a deal centered around Harden.

Los Angeles will receive Darius Garland and a second-round pick in return for Harden.

"Harden and the Clippers worked through his exit over the last few days -- resulting in a beneficial outcome for the sides: A win-now opportunity for Harden playing at a high level at 36 and recent two-time All-Star in Garland at 26 for the Clippers present and future," Charania said.

Who won the trade?

If we're talking about the immediate future, the Cavaliers might be considered the winners in this deal. After all, Harden is averaging 25.4 points and 8.1 assists per game this season.

Garland, meanwhile, hasn't since Jan. 14 due to a foot injury. He's been productive when available this season though, averaging 18.0 points and 6.9 assists per game.

It's worth noting that Garland is under contract through the 2027-28 season. As for Harden, he has a player option that could very well get declined.

We'll just have to let things play out to determine who really won this deal.
