Utah Jazz Take Down Pacers Behind Isaiah Collier’s Career Night

INDIANAPOLIS, Indiana – The shorthanded Utah Jazz, led by Isaiah Collier’s 17 points and career-high 22 assists, ended a six-game losing streak with a 131-122 win over Indiana.

The Jazz (16-35, 13th in the West) took on the Indiana Pacers (13-38, 15th in the East) at Gainbridge Fieldhouse on Tuesday, February 3.

Isaiah Collier dished out a career-high 22 assists while playing all 48 minutes for a Jazz team limited to seven available players. He tops the previous NBA season-high of 18 assists.

It was the most assists from a Jazz player since John Stockton handed out 23 helpers against Minnesota in 1992.

Jazz go ‘Big Game Hunting’ with Jaren Jackson Jr. trade

The surprise was evident on the face of KSL Sports Utah Jazz beat writer Ben Anderson when he received word that the Jazz had made a massive trade in acquiring two-time All-Star Jaren Jackson Jr. from the Memphis Grizzlies.

“WHOA,” Anderson said while live on KSL Sports Zone’s Jake & Ben morning radio show.

He went on to detail the eight-player deal that sends the former Michigan State Spartan to Utah, and likely signals a complete overhaul of the Memphis Grizzlies roster.

In exchange for JJJ, John Konchar, Jock Landale, and Vince Williams Jr., the Utah Jazz sent out Walter Clayton Jr., Kyle Anderson, Taylor Hendricks, Georges Niang, and three future first-round picks.

The 26-year-old former All-Star was also the 2023 NBA Defensive Player of the Year and has been a three-time all-defensive player in his seven seasons.

He is averaging 19.2 points, 5.8 rebounds, and 1.9 assists on 47.5 percent from the floor and 35.9 percent from three.

The @utahjazz still have full control of 7 future 1st-round draft picks through 2032, including all of their own from 2028-32.

They are likely to hold onto this year’s pick via the lottery, and own the second-most favorable 1st from UTA/CLE/MIN in 2027.

The trade is now official.

A little surprised they didn’t wait until Thursday to see if other teams wanted to expand the deal, but a monumental day for the @utahjazz. #TakeNote pic.twitter.com/1LGxXqwYuC

I don’t think you’re going to see the Jazz win a lot of games the rest of the season (though they may win tonight).

I do expect to see a lot of guys competing for spots in next year’s suddenly difficult-to-crack rotation.

That's 20 assists for Isaiah Collier.

Pretty strong statement on the same day the Jazz trade Walt Clayton Jr. to Memphis.

Collier is only the fourth player in Jazz history to record 20 dimes.

He joins John Stockton (34), Deron Williams (3), and Rickey Green (1).
