Caitlin Clark made headlines on Sunday night following her first broadcast opportunity with the NBA.
On the New York Knicks-Los Angeles Lakers pregame show, the Indiana Pacers legend Reggie Miller compared Clark's game to that of the Boston Celtics guard Payton Pritchard. Clark's reaction to the comparison went viral, as many believed that Miller's comparison was a slight to the impact that the Indiana Fever guard has had on the WNBA.
Clark poked at the moment on Tuesday night as the Celtics took on the Dallas Mavericks on the road. Pritchard hit a buzzer-beater shot in the first quarter, and Clark took to social media to react with smirking emojis.
Pritchard is a respectable comparison. The former 26th overall pick out of Oregon might've had a slow start to his NBA career, but he's become a key contributor on the Celtics. He played a key role on the 2024 NBA Championship team, and he won the league's Sixth Man of the Year award in 2025.
Heading into Tuesday's action, Pritchard had 48 games under his belt. He averages 16.8 points per game, while knocking down 35 percent of his threes. He also dishes out 5.3 assists per game and comes down with 3.4 rebounds per game.
Basketball fans simply took issue with the fact that Clark is an MVP candidate when healthy in the WNBA. Coming out of college, Clark was one of the biggest names in the game and was a two-time All-Star in two years. Typically, Clark garners comparisons to superstar-caliber names such as Steph Curry-not a Sixth Man of the Year type.
Either way, Clark is clearly showing she's actually unbothered by Miller's statement. But as Pritchard continues thriving with the Celtics, Clark can take it as an opportunity to celebrate the viral moment and the comparison.
