Liverpool have added a new coach to their academy ranks.
Bafodé Diakhaby recently moved to the Reds’ youth set-up after announcing his exit from Paris Saint-Germain. The 36-year-old was well regarded as the French giants. He spent almost a decade at PSG and was head of their pre-academy training before his exit. He had previously worked with the club’s under-16s, under-15 and under-14s.
During his time at the Parisians, the likes of Kingsley Coman, Warren Zaïre-Emery and Adrien Rabiot came through the ranks.
Per Diakhaby’s LinkedIn account, he started working at Liverpool last month. In a post on the website, he said: “With a lot of gratitude for all those who have shared this journey, on and off the pitch. The next chapter will be written elsewhere, like a new adventure.
“But some things remain: the bonds, the relationships, the memories, the love of the game. PSG will always be a special club for me, one that I will continue to follow with great attention and affection.”
French outlet Le Parisien reported that Diakhaby’s departure from PSG is ‘significant’.L’Equipe reported in November that there was ‘employee distress’ as the PSG academy and a labour inspectorate found that ‘workload that does not meet standards and a management problem’.
Liverpool have had some changes to their academy staffing since last summer. Long-time under-21s head coach Barry Lewtas departed to become England under-16s head coach. He was replaced by former Wales manager Rob Page, while Jay Spearing was promoted to assistant head coach.
Meanwhile, Marc Bridge-Wilkinson left his role as under-18s head coach. He was appointed assistant coach to Lee Grant at League One club Huddersfield Town. Simon Wiles was appointed to the role, having previously worked at Manchester United.
