When the New York Knicks signed Guerschon Yabusele last summer, they figured he would play a key role in their rotation off the bench.
Instead, the French forward has averaged only 8.9 minutes in 41 games played this season, averaging 2.7 points and shooting 39% from the field.
Recent reports suggest that Yabusele is garnering interest overseas from an Israeli team, despite his current two-year deal with the Knicks, and he was asked about it after Tuesday night's victory over the Washington Wizards.
Guerschon Yabusele responds to rumors he could be leaving Knicks
"I ain’t closing no door on nothing. I don’t know what’s going to happen. I don’t know what tomorrow’s going to be," Yabusele said via the New York Post's Stefan Bondy.
"I’m a Knicks player at the end of the day. But there’s been teams calling, so yeah, I feel like the report was just them saying they want me and then everybody thought that I signed something already."
The Athletic's Fred Katz pointed out that if Yabusele was indeed interested in leaving the Knicks and heading overseas, he would have to negotiate a buyout with New York.
Alternatively, the Knicks could try to trade him to a team that is slightly over the tax for a player who makes slightly less, and then that team could buy him out to get themselves under the apron.
Regardless, it will be an interesting saga to keep an eye on as the trade deadline gets closer and closer.
And the Knicks, who don't have many trade chips to bargain with, may find themselves one in Yabusele.
