Charlotte Hornets rookie guard Kon Knueppel received big news Tuesday.
NBA insider Chris Haynes reports that Knueppel is set to participate in the NBA 3-point contest on Feb. 15 during All-Star Weekend. It will be a busy week for Knueppel, who will also play in the NBA Rising Stars Challenge.
He's looking to become the first rookie to ever win the contest. It's unknown who Knueppel will be competing against, as no other participants have been announced. Miami Heat guard Tyler Herro won the event last year.
Knueppel is averaging 18.7 points, 5.5 rebounds and 3.6 this season. He's shooting 48.2% from the field and 42.5% from three. Earlier this season, the rookie became the fastest player to reach 100 career 3-pointers in league history.

He's one of the top contenders for the league's Rookie of the Year award this season, along with Dallas Mavericks forward and former Duke teammate Cooper Flagg. The two faced each other last week for the first time in a memorable night. Knueppel had 34 points on eight threes, while Flagg posted 49 points and 10 rebounds.
Knueppel has helped lead an impressive turnaround in Charlotte. The Hornets have won seven straight games and nine of their past 11. They're 23-28 on the season, one game behind the Chicago Bulls for the final Eastern Conference play-in spot.
Knueppel was selected No. 4 overall by Charlotte in the 2025 NBA Draft. He was part of a four-man draft class for the Hornets, along with Liam McNeely, Sion James and Ryan Kalkbrenner.
The Hornets return to action Thursday night against the Houston Rockets.
