Liverpool in the race to sign"truly fantastic"£51.7m star with incredible future - report

Liverpool are reportedly among the Premier League clubs to have “explored” a deal for highly-rated AZ Alkmaar midfielder Kees Smit.

The Reds may look to add to their midfield when the summer transfer window arrives, with a young player with a big future potentially brought in.

Crystal Palace and England ace Adam Wharton has been linked with a move to Liverpool in recent weeks, but it looks as though another exciting option is also being looked at.

According to Caught Offside, Liverpool are interested in signing £51.m-rated Smit from Alkmaar, with the report stating that the Reds, Arsenal and Manchester United all “explored potential deals” during the January window.

It goes on to add that the Premier League champions are “identifying elite young midfielders before their value peaks”, adding that the 20-year-old “fits that recruitment profile closely.”

Smit a special Liverpool target with a huge future

Smit has already impressed so much in his short career to date, already making 62 appearances for Alkmaar, scoring five goals and registering seven assists.

He has also won 36 caps for the Netherlands across five different youth age groups, with Spanish publication Mundo Deportivo once having this to say about him:

“The AZ Alkmaar player is one of the biggest promises in Dutch football. He has a superior individual technical quality, which makes him stand out in dribbling and giving long passes. But besides the fact that he has a very nice feeling in his foot, his physical performances make him stand out against footballers who are twice his age.”

Meanwhile, scout Jacek Kulig has hailed him as “a truly fantastic and underrated midfielder” and “the future of AZ and Dutch football“, so Liverpool should be viewing him as a wonderful option.

At 20, there is so much more to come from him, and he would hopefully only improve more by playing alongside elite players at Anfield.

Alexis Mac Allister has struggled to be the same footballer this season, with him and Ryan Gravenberch linked with moves away, so the Reds should always be eyeing up potential replacements or players who can improve the squad depth moving forward.
