‘Utopian’–Chance of signing Chelsea player seen as laughable

Last month, Chelsea parted ways with Enzo Maresca and appointed Liam Rosenior as his successor at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea star Enzo Fernández had developed a good relationship with Maresca. The Blues decision to part ways with the Italian didn’t please the midfielder.

On January 15th, L’Equipe reported the midfielder is considering his future at Chelsea even though he has a contract until 2032. This has already alerted Paris Saint-Germain, who are considering signing him after this season.

Last year, D Sports in Argentina reported Real Madrid were considering an exchange deal involving the 25-year-old and Aurélien Tchouameni. Recent claims in the UK have talked about the La Liga side as an option for the Argentina international.

Wednesday’s edition of Sport takes a look at these claims and then provide their own take on this case.

Transfermarkt currently values the World Cup winner at €85m while the British press have mentioned a figure around €100-110m. The fee could rise further if he were to impress at the next World Cup.

Sport claim Real Madrid are highly unlikely to sign Fernández in the near future and there are multiple reasons for that.

Chelsea have ‘no need or intention’ to part ways with the former Benfica man. The Club World Cup winners are well protected by his long contract until 2032.

Therefore, Real Madrid have to spend big to take him away from the west London club. This is something the Spanish giants are reluctant to do in the near future.

A potential move may only be possible if Jude Bellingham were to go elsewhere. Even in that case, finding an agreement with Chelsea won’t be easy because PSG are also pursuing him.

Keeping all this in mind, Sport claim the idea of Real Madrid ‘signing [Fernández] Madrid seems utopian’.

The South American has managed 11 goals and four assists from 36 matches for Chelsea this season.
