Arsenal fans mock Terry as Chelsea legend posts reaction to cup loss

Three stages of grief: John Terry

Chelsea Football Newsletter

Arsenal fans are mocking John Terry after he posted a video to his TikTok page reacting to the Kai Havertz goal which knocked Chelsea out of the Carabao Cup on Tuesday night.

Chelsea visited the Emirates in the semi-final second leg trailing by one, but struggled to threaten the Gunners and were eventually eliminated when former Blue Havertz broke the deadlock deep in injury time.

Terry was not in attendance at the match, choosing instead to watch from home with his daughter, Summer, and his pet dog.

Terry, a three-time League Cup winner with Chelsea, whipped out his phone and began recording as six minutes of stoppage time wound down, hoping to capture a reaction to a late equaliser for his nearly half-a-million followers.

No such equaliser came, though, as Terry documented himself nervously watching last-ditch Chelsea attacks.

“Just over a minute to go, we need a goal,” he said. “Come on lads!”

Havertz’s winner left him in disbelief as his daughter pleaded with him not to post the video.

A stunned Terry reacted: “Offside. Surely [Havertz is] offside!

“That’s the end of our Cup run. Not a bad performance from us, never really looked like scoring to be honest.

Summer added: “Don’t put that anywhere, Dad! Sorry, you’re not putting that anywhere.”

Since posting the clip, Terry has been the butt of plenty of jokes on social media.

One fan wrote on X, formerly Twitter: “Thought Kai Havertz scoring would be the best thing I watch tonight but here’s John Terry recording himself thinking Chelsea will score only for Kai to win it. In his full Chelsea tracksuit.”

Another added: “Why would he even post this? Like he had the option to press post.”

A third wrote: “The hurt in his eyes and voice said it all.”

Another quipped: “Can't believe he didn't have his kit on.”

Terry did at least offer an explanation as to why he had donned a team tracksuit.

He wrote: “I’m not sitting at home in my Chelsea tracksuit, got back earlier from our Youth League Game Vs PSV which we won on penalties.”
