Darwin Nunez left Liverpool last summer after helping win the Premier League title.

Darwin Nunez could be set to be on the move again - just six months after leaving Liverpool.

The striker brought the curtain down on his three years at Anfield last August. Nunez joined Liverpool from Benfica for an initial fee of £64 million which could have risen to a club-record £85 million had certain add-ons been met.

While Nunez helped the Reds to Premier League glory last season, as well as the Carabao Cup in 2024, he endured a difficult spell on Merseyside. The Uruguay international struggled to nail down a regular starting spot, although he was popular win supporters. Nunez’s late double off the bench to earn a 2-0 victory at Brentford was a pivotal moment en route to Arne Slot’s side claiming the Premier League title.

The arrival of Hugo Ekitike and subsequent signing of Alexander Isak meant that Nunez was sold to Al-Hill for £46 million plus add-ons. He ended his career with 40 goals and 26 assists in 140 appearances.

“Thank you, Liverpool,” Nunez posted on social media after his departure was finalised. “Three years on, it’s time to say goodbye. I’ll take with me countless memories that will live with me forever.

“I leave with a full heart, thanks to the love of a crowd that never let me down and always had my back - through the highs and through the lows. Liverpool will always be part of who I am. I’ll miss you more than words can say. To all the staff and my teammates - thank you and all the very best for the future.”

So far, Nunez has bagged seven times and created five for Al-Hilal in 22 games. However, despite his side leading the Saudi Pro League table, the 26-year-old has been heavily linked with a departure. Al-Hilal have signed Karim Benzema, which means that Nunez’s minutes could become more limited ahead of the World Cup later this year.

Reports in Saudi Arabia and Turkey suggest that a switch to Fenerbahce is something that could well happen. The Turkish window does not close until February 6. Fenerbahce are second in the table, two points adrift of fierce foes Galatasaray. Fener have signed former Chelsea and France midfielder Ngolo Kante and are hoping to bolster their squad further with Nunez. The Istanbul outfit have also offloaded Youssef En-Nesyri to Al-Ittihad, meaning there is a forward berth in their squad.

Saudi publication Ariyadhiah (via NTV Spor) suggests that Al-Hilal have accepted an offer for a permanent deal.
